Mrs. Jenkin's Ecology class from Cape Central Academy took to the wetlands to learn about the different animal and plant life firsthand. Thank you to the amazing guides from the Cache Bayou Outfitters for taking these students on the water and sharing their passion for local wetlands. This learning activity was made possible thanks to the Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation. We would also like to thank EPIC for providing bags for the students to use out on the water. We love when learning comes to life and provides exciting experiences for students.

A quick scheduling reminder - no school Friday, March 21, 2025 for Professional Development. We'll see students back on Monday, March 24th. We also have a board meeting that day starting at 6:00 p.m. at 301 N. Clark. Have a great weekend!

Students at Blanchard Elementary are getting their hands dirty in the best way possible—through hands-on learning with a pottery wheel. Ms. Calleigh Ainsworth's art class students have been introduced to the fundamentals of pottery, shaping and molding clay into unique creations. This experience allows them to see their lessons come to life, transforming abstract concepts into tangible works of art. The pottery wheel sparks creativity and enhances fine motor skills and patience, making art class an even more enriching experience. The pottery wheel was made possible thanks to a grant from the Cape Girardeau Public Schools Foundation.

The ABCToday Network recently hosted the Entry Level Employment and Career Fair at Cape Central High School, connecting 900+ students with 30+ local employers. Students explored job opportunities for teens, high school graduates, those interested in trade programs, and college-bound students.
This year’s event also provided valuable "how-to" resources on getting a driver's license, obtaining vital documents, and applying for a passport — helping students take the next step toward their future.

Cape Central High students took center stage during a powerful Black History Month program. The event was originally scheduled for February but was postponed due to a winter storm. The rescheduled presentation did not disappoint. Students showcased a variety of talents, from singing and heartfelt poetry to an educational presentation on the history of Black hairstyles. The audience was treated to a program full of learning, creativity, passion, and talent. Adding to the special occasion was guest speaker Breanna Harris, a Cape Central alumna, and current news anchor and reporter for KFVS12. She inspired students with her words and shared the importance of having different voices telling stories in the field of news. We would like to send a special thanks to the CHS Yearbook Staff for capturing these memorable moments through photos.

The Cape Central High School football team doesn’t take weekends off — on or off the field.
Recently, the team spent their Saturday volunteering at SEMO Pets, a local animal shelter. From making special treats to walking dogs and giving the animals some much-needed attention, these athletes showed that teamwork goes beyond the gridiron.
Under the leadership of Coach Shaddix, the players helped make the day special for the animals and the staff at the shelter. Their dedication to serving the community is truly commendable.
Thank you to Coach Shaddix and the Cape Central football team for making a positive impact on our community!

Dear CGPS Families,
Friday, February 21st, will be an AMI Day. After driving our bus routes, we found that there are still slick spots, specifically near bus stops. Additionally, dangerously low temperatures are expected again Friday morning. We do not want students walking to school or waiting for the bus in such frigid temperatures.
We understand that having students stay home may cause some inconveniences for families, and we are very sorry for this. However, we feel this is our safest option for tomorrow. We are looking forward to those warmer temperatures that are just around the corner so we can welcome our students and staff back to campus.
We wish you all a safe weekend!

Dear CGPS Families,
We will be using another AMI Day on Thursday, February 20. The roads are still too dangerous in some areas and it will be extremely cold tomorrow. We feel it is safest to keep everyone home.
For more information on assignments, please look for messages from your student’s building. If you have any questions, please reach out to your principal or teacher.
Stay safe and warm!

Dear Tiger Families,
Students will not come to school on Wednesday, February 19, because of the snow and dangerous road conditions. Wednesday will be an Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) day. Students will either do online assignments or finish work that was sent home. Your student’s building will share more information about assignments for Wednesday.
Thank you for your time and stay safe.
Have a great evening!
